Interview? Oui.  Traction? Non!

Well the California Free-for-all is on.  Davis(d), Bustamante(d) and McClintock(r) seem to be the only quasi-serious candidates in the entire field.  Is it strange to anyone else that the Democrats actually get to cast two votes?  One for the guy they want and one for the other guy they want if the first guy tanks?  Is it really fair that someone can vote “NO” on recall, but still vote for a replacement?  Yes, I know that is the way the law is written and that is the way this election should be run, but you can bet your last dollar that if it were a Republican in office being recalled, this would have already gone before a left-wing judge who would have ruled that voters voting “NO” on the recall would not be allowed to vote for a replacement.  But, since it is a Democrat undergoing a Republican challenge, we’ll just abide by the law.

Over the weekend, the “mainstream” media(d) learned of a 25 year old interview Arnold Schwarzenegger (r?) gave Oui Magazine(x).  Oh, the sanctimony was palpable with the furrowed brows, the wringing hands and the “we’ve got him now” eye-twinkle.  They raised such concern over about what this candidate did in his twenties.

So, the real question is, are these people bringing this up simply because he has chosen to stick an (r) behind his name?  Honestly, have we already forgotten being told the actions of a sitting leader in an awkward situation (with uncountable prior incidents) should be ignored? Have we forgotten being told that what he chose to do in his sex life really was none of our business?

Well, it doesn’t really matter.  There is absolutely no traction on this story.  One reason is because Arnold is still “new”.  His armor has not yet lost its shine.  He’s still Arnold Schwarzenegger – SuperStar instead of Gubernatorial Candidate.  Of course, Tucker Carlson (><) of CNN pretty much nailed it with, “It’s CALIFORNIA!”  His actions there are not only accepted, but applauded.  And let’s be honest, how many 25 year-old males would absolutely LOVE to find themselves in a similar situation?  Heck, how many 75 year-olds males would?

Anyone who is watching knows this guy isn’t really a conservative.  Of course, his first response to the interview was encouraging (“yeah, so what?”), but in less than twenty-four hours, a chill ran up my spine.  The ghost of Clinton Past (heaven forbid Future) reared its two faces when he uttered, “I don’t recall…”

Don’t fret, Carville-and-Company.  You guys should have already figured out that you don’t have to push Arnold off his pedestal – given enough time, he will do quite well all by himself.  Don’t get me wrong, Arnold would do a much better job at running the state than Governor Davis(d) and Lt. Governor Bustamante(d).  Of course, I don’t think Governor Madonna(bdsm) and Lt. Governor Brittany Spears (oo) could do much worse.  I’m sure they could find other things to do rather than screwing

up the state’s economy.

As the carnival continues, if Arnold is unable to campaign without a script and without a net, he will eventually start to slip in the polls.  If he gets to the point of just splitting off star-struck quasi-conservative wannabes and handing the election to Bustamante, will he prove he is “pro-choice” and “terminate” his candidacy?  Will he support a true conservative such as McClintock for the position, or will he wind up pulling a Ross Perot(ps) thereby handing the election to Davis’ tax and spend protégé?  That’s when we will see the heart of the matter.   And the same goes for McClintock.  If it appears there is no chance for him, he should bow out and throw his support behind the closest thing to a conservative we have.

That only leaves one question:  If Schwarzenegger does win as a Republican, will he be conservative enough to fix the state?  Or will he be liberal enough to push it on into bankruptcy giving the left ammunition to “prove” conservatism doesn’t work?
